Spill & Remediation Product Application Tips
As your reliable provider of remediation products and solutions, AC Environmental offers product application tips to help you with your clean up or spill response situation.
Hydrocarbon & Aqueous Spill Cleanup
In hydrocarbon clean ups, if the hydrocarbon is too thick, dilute it with diesel or gasoline to thin it. The thinner mixture can be picked up faster by the absorbent polymer. In aqueous material clean ups, if the reaction is taking too long, add water to speed up the reaction time.
The following table lists some common quantity ratios of required absorbent polymer particular and its resulting by-product in the treatment of oil and chemical spills. Polymer to Hydrocarbon ratios are calculated by weight (i.e., amount of polymer needed to encapsulate the hydrocarbon), NOT BY volume.
Polymer-Hydrocarbon Ratio Examples:
| Polymer | Hydrocarbon | |
| Crude Oil |
1 | 1 |
| Diesel | 1 | 6 |
| Kerosene | 1 | 8 |
| Gasoline | 1 | 15 |
