If you find yourself in an emergency situation requiring immediate remediation services, feel free to contact the listed organizations below. They will either perform the remediation services or direct you to the appropriate organization in your area.
Examples of Spill Response Organizations:
- ECRC - ECRC owns specialized equipment and maintains contracts with spill response contractors, consultants, and specialists. It provides coverage in all navigable waters east of the Rocky Mountains, except in Saint John, New Brunswick, and Point Tupper, NS. (www.ecrc.ca)
- Burrard Clean Operations - Burrard Clean Operations (BCO) is a division of Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC) and fulfills the role of field response/operations for the company. BCO’s mandate is to protect all of British Columbia’s navigable waters. (www.burrardclean.com)
- Canadian Coast Guard – One of the objectives of the Environmental Response program of the Canadian Coast Guard is to minimize the environmental, economic, and public safety impacts of marine pollution incidents. They have extensive expertise in identifying, analyzing, and developing the preparedness and response activities essential to an efficient and dependable response system. - Regional Environmental Emergency Teams (REET) – These teams consist of national and regional committees that give advice on how to prevent, plan for, and respond to environmental emergencies. They respond to large oil spills, hazardous materials spills that endanger human life or the environment, chemical fires or explosions, large spills of chemicals or pollutants, spills that local authorities are not equipped to handle, and spills that could cross international borders.
